America’s Top States for Business 2011 – NC #3 | Wilmington NC real estate

America’s Top States for Business 2011 – Overall Rankings – CNBC.

North Carolina is in the ranks again!  CNBC just released their 2011 report for Americas Top States for Buisness.  North Carolina ranked #3.  That is good news for the state for which we live and work in.  There were 10 criteria on which their study was based on.

      – Cost of Doing Business
     – Workforce
     – Quality of Life
     – Economy
     – Transportation & Infrastructure
     – Technology & Innovation
     – Education
     – Business Friendliness
     – Access to Capital
     – Cost of Living

According to CNBC – “We scored all 50 states on 43 measures of competitiveness developed with input from business groups including the National Association of Manufacturers and the Council on Competitiveness. States received points based on their rankings in each metric. Then, we separated those metrics into ten broad categories, weighting the categories based on how frequently they are cited in state economic development marketing materials. That way, our study ranks the states based on the criteria they use to sell themselves ”

Wilmington NC Community leaders tackle downtown issues | Wilmington NC real estate

Community leaders tackle downtown issues.

The power breakfast meeting Wednesday with community leaders was held to discuss improving Downtown Wilmington NC.  Most everyone was optimistic on the future of Downtown, but not always on the remedies to the existing problems.

The panel included Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, District Attorney Ben David, William Sharbaugh, chief operating officer of PPD Inc., Chris Boney of Cape Fear Future and David Spetrino, chairman of Wilmington Downtown Inc.

The new convention center is now open and Cape Fear Community College is expanding at a great rate.  This has helped revitalize the area.  Saffo says ” that more needs to be done by the private sector.”

Attorney Ben David discussed the crime in the area and what can be done to bring the rates down.  Education of our young people about getting in trouble is high on David’s list of concerns.  The Dreams Center for Arts is one of the educational programs that was touted.  More cultural centers are needed and that is one area that maybe the private sector could start to help the entire downtown cultural feel.

It’s a maxim in real estate that the three most crucial factors in selecting a house are “location, location, location.” It’s also true! No matter how wonderful the house is, the location is key to how well you’ll like living in it and how well it sells when you’re ready to move on. Before you buy, carefully check the following factors to be sure the house you like is really the one you want to live in.

1. Consider destinations

Where will family members go most often from this new location? How easy is it to reach those places from the house? How accessible are schools, churches, grocery stores, medical care, public transportation, shopping malls and emergency services?

2. Be sure rooms have a view

What is the view from the house and yard? Is the yard right for your anticipated activities? What uses are possible for nearby undeveloped land? Is a new road or commercial development planned?
